Just 20-25 People Turn Up For Pro-Khalistan Rally In Canada

A pro-Khalistan rally on Monday failed to garner support from the public as just 25 people turned up to protest against India on Monday, News18 reported citing sources.

The rally was scheduled to be held at 12 noon outside the Indian Consulate in Vancouver over the murder of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Approximately 20-25 individuals assembled outside the Indian consulate, displaying both Canadian flags and Khalistan flags. Many of the participants carried signs expressing gratitude to Justin Trudeau for his support for the Sikh community, the sources informed the publication.

Tensions flared between India and Canada following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's explosive allegations of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on his country's soil on June 18 in British Columbia. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020.

The report further claims that there were more mediapersons and police personnel than the protestors although the official press release stated that around 100 people joined the demonstration.

The protestors have demanded the Canadian government to expel Indian High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma.

Meanwhile, Canada has updated travel advisory for its citizens in India asking them to "stay vigilant and exercise caution" in the context of recent developments as there are calls for protests and some "negative sentiment" towards Canada on social media.

This comes after New Delhi issued a similar advisory for Indian nationals and students living in Canada and halted visa services late last week, Global News reported.
