Two More Jurors Seated in Trump Hush Money Case, Total Now Seven

Jury selection in the high-profile hush money case involving former U.S. President Donald Trump faced challenges on Thursday, with the excusal of two jurors who had previously been sworn in. This development marks a significant moment in the legal proceedings against Trump, who faces allegations related to efforts to suppress damaging stories during his 2016 campaign.

Trump Case Jury Selection Progresses

The case, which is being heard before Judge Juan M. Merchan, has drawn widespread attention as it involves the first-ever criminal charges against a former U.S. president. The charges allege that Trump falsified business records to conceal payments made to two women, as well as a Trump Tower doorman, to prevent stories about extramarital sexual encounters from surfacing.

With the removal of two jurors from the panel, the legal teams are now tasked with selecting 13 additional jurors, including six alternates, to form the jury. This process encountered further complications as over half of a new group of 96 prospective jurors were dismissed after indicating their inability to serve.

In addition to the challenges in jury selection, prosecutors have requested sanctions against Trump for violating a gag order through multiple social media posts. These posts, according to the prosecution, aim to undermine the integrity of the trial by attacking witnesses. The request follows an earlier motion seeking a $3,000 fine for similar violations.

Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts related to the case. The allegations center on payments made to porn actor Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal, who have both claimed to have had extramarital affairs with Trump. A payment was also allegedly made to a doorman who claimed to have information about a child Trump fathered out of wedlock. Trump denies these encounters occurred.

This trial is notably the first of four indictments against Trump to proceed to court, marking a historic moment in U.S. legal history. As the case unfolds, it continues to capture the attention of both national and international observers.
