Journalist shot dead in Pakistan: 2nd in 24 hours
Islamabad, Sept 8: Aftab Alam a senior journalist in Pakistan has been shot dead by gunmen in what has been described as a targeted attack on the media.
Gunmen opened fire on his car in North Karachi and also shot down Alam, according to Geo TV. Alam was previously been associated with Geo News. This was the second attack on a journalist in the past 24 hours.
He was leaving to pick up his children when the incident occurred outside his residence. He was targeted outside his residence at 11-C area of North Karachi.
The killing comes just hours after gunmen attacked a Geo News van in the Bahadurabad area in which a senior sattelite engineer Arshad Ali Jafri was killed.
The Pakistan media has had several run ins with the Pakistan spy agency, ISI in the recent past.
A senior journalist Hamid Mir who was injured after being targeted in Karachi had blamed the ISI for the attack.
It was also alleged that Geo TV network had faced similar problems when former President Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf had imposed an emergency in the country and shut down TV channels in 2007.
