Joe Biden Reveals Potential Reasons for Withdrawing from Presidential Race

US President Joe Biden has firmly stated his intention to remain in the presidential race. He has repeatedly confirmed his commitment, saying he is "one thousand per cent" staying in. However, Biden has hinted at certain conditions that might make him reconsider, especially as some members of his party urge him to step down.

Bidens Exit Reasons from Race

Divine Intervention

In an interview with ABC News, Biden was asked by George Stephanopoulos if he believed only he could defeat Donald Trump. Biden responded confidently, saying, "I have convinced myself of two things: I'm the most qualified person to beat him, and I know how to get things done." When pressed further on whether he would step aside if convinced he couldn't win, Biden said, "It depends. I mean, if the Lord Almighty comes out and tells me that, I might do that."

Cold, Hard Data

During a NATO summit news conference in Washington last week, Biden was asked if he would step aside if polls showed Vice President Kamala Harris as a stronger candidate against Trump. Initially, Biden said "no," but then added, "Unless they came back and said there's no way you can win. Me. No one is saying that. No poll says that." Current polling suggests a competitive race with neither candidate having a clear advantage.

A Fateful Accident

In an interview with Speedy Morman from Complex in Detroit last week, Biden was asked if he would be on the ballot this November. Biden quipped, "Unless I get hit by a train, yeah." Morman replied, "Let's hope that doesn't happen, for your safety's concern."

A Not-Yet-Diagnosed Medical Ailment

Biden discussed potential health issues with BET journalist Ed Gordon in an interview set to air Wednesday night. When asked about factors that might make him reconsider his candidacy, Biden mentioned a new reason: "If I had some medical condition that emerged," he said. "If doctors came to me and said you got this problem, that problem." The health of Biden, the oldest person to be US president, has been scrutinised well before his latest debate performance.

After his latest physical in February, presidential doctor Kevin O'Connor stated that Biden "remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency." A neurological exam conducted more than a month prior showed no signs of stroke, multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease. O'Connor also noted that a cognitive exam was unnecessary.

Biden tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday while trying to gain support among disenchanted voters crucial for his reelection campaign. This diagnosis led him to cancel a meeting with members of a Latino civil rights organisation in Nevada.

Biden's determination to stay in the race remains strong despite various hypothetical scenarios. His responses indicate that only significant events or undeniable data could make him reconsider his candidacy.
