Springer was born on February 13, 1944, in London, England, but grew up in New York City. He graduated from Tulane University in 1965 and earned a law degree from Northwestern University in 1968. He practiced law for several years before entering politics, serving as a councilman and mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio in the 1970s.

After leaving politics, Springer turned to television, hosting a local news program and later 'The Jerry Springer Show'. He has also appeared in several films and television shows, including "Ringmaster" and "America's Got Talent." In recent years, Springer has been involved in politics again, supporting Democratic candidates and causes.
