Japanese Police Academy Trains Male Officers Makeup Skills—Check Inside Why

A police academy in Japan has introduced a makeup course for its male officers, aiming to improve their professional appearance. According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Fukushimaken Keisatsugakko, a police academy in Fukushima prefecture, started the training in January this year. The course is designed for 60 cadets, including those close to graduation, and has attracted significant attention online.

The training covers basic makeup techniques such as using eyebrow pencils, moisturising the skin, and applying primers. Additionally, cadets are taught grooming skills like trimming eyebrows and hairstyling. Japanese cosmetics brand Shiseido has also been involved in the programme to ensure high standards of professionalism.

Takeshi Sugiura, the vice-principal of the academy, stated that since police officers interact with different members of society, it is essential for them to maintain a neat and professional appearance.

"We want to remind students that as members of society and future police officers, maintaining a proper appearance is crucial," Mr Sugiura said.

A cadet who took part in the training said he had never worn makeup before but believed that looking presentable was important for police officers.

The introduction of the course has sparked mixed reactions on Japanese social media. While some users made jokes about the initiative, others supported it. One person humorously commented, "Now they can throw loose powder into suspects' eyes to catch them!" Meanwhile, another wrote, "This may seem unusual, but isn't it a good idea for both men and women to take makeup lessons?"

Japanese police academies traditionally focus on physical and legal training. However, the addition of such courses is being seen as a way to promote professionalism and community engagement.

Another police academy in Yamaguchi has also introduced a similar programme, teaching male cadets proper facial care techniques.
