Japan: Woman arrested for calling police 15,000 times

Tokyo, Dec 5: Japanese police arrested a 44-year-old woman on Thursday for calling them 15,000 times since May this year.

Authorities repeatedly visited her and asked her to stop making the calls failing which they arrested her.
One officer in Sakai, near the city of Osaka, said the woman made 927 emergency calls one day, creating lot of problem for them in carrying out their duties.

The authorities said the woman had no mental illness and that her calls were without any reason. The officer said it was "just total nonsense".

The police visited the woman's place about 60 times and tried to persuade her not to call again but she didn't listen. The police suspect her to be a lonely individual.

The woman was held for fraudulently obstructing police's work and the charges carry upto a maximum imprisonment of three years or a fine of 4,900 US Dollars.
