Jaishankar Addresses UNGA: Pakistan's Cross-Border Terrorism Will Face Consequences

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised that Pakistan's cross-border terrorism will not succeed and will have repercussions. He highlighted that Pakistan's own societal issues are a result of its actions, describing it as karma. Jaishankar made these remarks during the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Jaishankar Critiques Pakistan at UNGA

Jaishankar pointed out that while some countries face challenges beyond their control, others make choices that lead to negative outcomes. He cited Pakistan as a prime example of the latter. "Many countries get left behind due to circumstances beyond their control, but some make conscious choices with disastrous consequences. A premier example is our neighbour, Pakistan," he said.

Focus on Illegally Occupied Territory

The minister stressed that the primary issue between India and Pakistan is the vacation of Indian territory illegally occupied by Pakistan. He also called for Pakistan to abandon its long-standing support for terrorism. "The issue to be resolved between us is now only the vacation of illegally occupied Indian territory by Pakistan, and, of course, the abandonment of Pakistan's long standing attachment to terrorism," he stated.

Jaishankar reiterated that Pakistan cannot expect impunity for its actions. He warned that there would be consequences for its policies. "Pakistan's cross-border terrorism policy will never succeed, and it can have no expectation of impunity," he asserted.

Karma and Consequences

He further elaborated on how the negative impacts Pakistan intended for others are now affecting its own society. "Today we see the ills it Pakistan sought to visit on others consume its own society. It can't blame the world. This is only karma," he remarked.

Jaishankar's address underscored India's firm stance against terrorism and highlighted the need for accountability in international relations. His comments reflect India's ongoing concerns about regional security and stability.
