Diplomacy in Action: Jaishankar's Crucial Meet with Blinken Amidst India-Canada Tensions
Amidst an escalating diplomatic crisis between India and Canada over the killing of a Khalistani separatist, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The meeting comes as the US urges Indian cooperation in Canadian investigations into the incident.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday, September 28. The meeting took place amidst a diplomatic dispute between India and Canada concerning the death of a Khalistani separatist. Jaishankar expressed his pleasure to be back in Washington while addressing the media alongside Blinken before their discussion.
The Diplomatic Crisis

Although there was no official disclosure about the agenda for this meeting, it is anticipated that they will discuss the current diplomatic crisis between India and Canada, both allies of America. This issue has become more prominent due to recent developments and is expected to feature heavily during their talks.
American Standpoint
"I don’t want to preview the conversations he (Blinken) will have in that meeting with Jaishankar," said Matthew Miller, State Department Spokesperson. He added that they had already raised this issue with Indian counterparts and encouraged them to cooperate with Canadian investigations. "We continue to encourage them to cooperate," he stated while responding to questions from reporters earlier on Wednesday.
Pre-planned Meeting Amidst Crisis
The meeting between these two top diplomats had been scheduled long before the Canadian crisis surfaced. However, given recent events, it has taken on additional significance as tensions rise over international relations issues. The United States has been urging India consistently to participate in Canada's investigation into Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing in British Columbia earlier this year.
Canadian Allegations
In an unexpected turn of events, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that the Indian government was involved in some way or other with Nijjar’s murder - a claim which has sparked controversy and strained ties between India and Canada even further.
In conclusion, the meeting between Jaishankar and Blinken is expected to address this diplomatic crisis. The United States, as a mutual ally of both India and Canada, has found itself in a delicate situation. It remains to be seen how these discussions will impact future relations between these nations and whether they can find common ground amidst their differences. As the world watches closely, it is hoped that diplomacy will prevail over discord for the sake of international peace and cooperation.-
