Disturbing Video Leads to Internal Review of Jacksonville Traffic Stop Incident
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in northeast Florida has launched an internal review following a traffic stop incident involving 24-year-old LeKeian Woods, a Black man whose arrest was captured on video by a bystander. The graphic footage shows Woods with swollen eyes and a bloody face sitting handcuffed on the ground surrounded by officers.
Incident Details

The video, released by Woods' attorney Harry Daniels, reveals at least three officers atop of Woods who is lying chest-down on grass next to a vehicle. In one disturbing sequence, an officer appears to forcefully slam Woods' head into the ground. Following this, handcuffed and seemingly unable to sit up independently, Woods is propped against an officer's legs. Later scenes show him struggling to stand up.
Internal Review Launched
In response to the incident which occurred on Friday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office issued a statement confirming that force had been used during Wood's arrest and that they were conducting an administrative review of the event. This investigation aims to determine whether any policies were violated during his apprehension.
"The agency takes all allegations of inappropriate use of force by JSO officers seriously," stated representatives from the sheriff's office. However, they also noted their inability to comment further due to ongoing investigations into this specific episode.
Woods' Condition Post-Arrest
According to Daniels, after his arrest, Woods was taken immediately for medical treatment at a local hospital owing to injuries sustained during his encounter with law enforcement officials. The extent or nature of these injuries have not yet been disclosed publicly.
Calls for Transparency
This case adds fuel to ongoing discussions about police brutality and racial profiling within law enforcement agencies across America. It underscores the need for transparency in such incidents where force is used, especially when the involved parties belong to racial minorities. The release of this video has sparked public outcry and demands for a thorough investigation into Woods' arrest.
In conclusion, the incident involving LeKeian Woods is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by Black Americans at the hands of law enforcement agencies. While it is commendable that Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has initiated an internal review, it remains to be seen how transparent and accountable they will be in their proceedings. This case serves as another pivotal point in America's ongoing struggle with issues of police brutality and systemic racism within its law enforcement departments.
