Jack Teixeira Receives 15-Year Prison Sentence for Leaking Classified Military Documents

A Massachusetts Air National Guard member, Jack Teixeira, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for leaking classified military documents about the Ukraine war. He pleaded guilty to six counts of willful retention and transmission of national defence information under the Espionage Act. Teixeira, 22, admitted to illegally sharing sensitive secrets on Discord. He was arrested nearly a year before his guilty plea in March. Prosecutors sought a lengthy sentence, arguing his actions caused historic damage by aiding U.S. adversaries and harming allies. They believed a severe penalty would deter similar conduct within the military.
