Minister Yerlikaya, however, did not provide any specific details regarding the assailants' affiliation or the motive behind the attack, which resulted in a woman sustaining critical injuries.

President Erdogan Condemns Attack, Praises Law Enforcement
In response to the incident, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly condemned the attack during an election rally on Sunday. He commended the efforts of the police and prosecutors for their swift action in apprehending additional suspects involved in the incident.
Attack Details and Investigation
The attack took place on Saturday when Aziz Yeniay, a mayoral candidate representing the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Istanbul's Kucukcemece district, was visiting an association, according to the Turkish semi-official Anadolu Agency. A 32-year-old woman was struck by gunfire during the attack, and the assailants managed to escape in a vehicle.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, reviewing security camera footage and collecting evidence from the scene. They discovered 17 spent shell casings at the site, and footage captured by security cameras showed individuals firing from a white car before speeding away.

Turkey is set to hold municipal elections on March 31, and the ruling AKP, led by President Erdogan, aims to regain control of several crucial cities and districts that were lost to the opposition Republican Peoples Party five years ago. In response to the attack, Aziz Yeniay, the mayoral candidate who was the target of the incident, addressed reporters, emphasizing the importance of not succumbing to fear and panic. He stated, "We know that terrorism feeds off fear and panic. We will not give credence to this, we will not be afraid."
