The attack took place on Saturday when Aziz Yeniay, a mayoral candidate representing the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Istanbul's Kucukcemece district, was visiting an association, according to the Turkish semi-official Anadolu Agency. A 32-year-old woman was struck by gunfire during the attack, and the assailants managed to escape in a vehicle.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, reviewing security camera footage and collecting evidence from the scene. They discovered 17 spent shell casings at the site, and footage captured by security cameras showed individuals firing from a white car before speeding away.
