Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Confirms Targeted Strike on Ali Larijani

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday said Israel has killed senior Iranian leader Ali Larijani in a targeted operation, marking a dramatic escalation in tensions with Iran.

In a strongly worded address, Netanyahu described Larijani as a central figure in Iran's power structure and linked him to the country's military establishment, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Basij. He claimed both Larijani and a senior Basij commander were killed in coordinated strikes carried out using Israeli Air Force jets and drones.

Netanyahu indicated that Israel's operations are ongoing and extend beyond single strikes, with continued aerial missions targeting what he described as key elements of Iran's leadership and security apparatus. He framed the campaign as part of a broader effort to weaken the Iranian regime and create conditions for internal change.

The Israeli leader also highlighted close coordination with the United States, saying he had spoken at length with Donald Trump and pointed to joint military cooperation in the Gulf region. He suggested that both direct and indirect actions are being used to intensify pressure on Tehran, while hinting at further undisclosed steps.

Emphasising resolve, Netanyahu said victory would depend on sustained determination from political leaders, military commanders, and the public. He urged Israelis to remain confident despite criticism and to focus on what he described as significant strategic gains since the aftermath of the October 7 attacks.

He also sought to reassure citizens affected by the conflict, saying the government would expand compensation measures and provide additional support, particularly to communities in northern Israel.

The claim of Larijani's killing, if confirmed, could have major implications for regional stability, though there has been no immediate response from Iranian authorities.
