Israeli Envoy Demands Immediate Resignation Of Antonio Guterres, Says 'Not Fit To Lead UN'

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, made a strong call for the resignation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on Tuesday, 24th October.

Erdan stated, "The UN Secretary-General, who shows understanding for the campaign of mass murder of children, women, and the elderly, is not fit to lead the UN,"..."I call on him to resign immediately. There is no justification or point in talking to those who show compassion for the most terrible atrocities committed against the citizens of Israel and the Jewish people. There are simply no words," urging Guterres to step down immediately.

As per a report in India today, Guterres had earlier on Tuesday, 24th October, raised concerns over the violation of international humanitarian law in Gaza amid ongoing Israeli strikes. He emphasized that no party involved in an armed conflict should be exempt from adhering to international humanitarian law.

Guterres reportedly told a Security Council session, "I am deeply concerned about the clear violations of international humanitarian law that we are witnessing in Gaza. Let me be clear: No party to an armed conflict is above international humanitarian law,"

The conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has escalated, with Israel preparing for a potential ground incursion against Hamas. This conflict, which began following a deadly attack by Hamas on Israel on 7th October, has resulted in the loss of numerous lives and has raised concerns about its potential to expand into a wider regional conflict.

Furthermore, Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza in response to the Hamas attack, leading to severe shortages of essential supplies for the 2.3 million residents of Gaza, including food, water, and medicine. Although some aid convoys have been permitted to enter Gaza, the amount of assistance provided falls significantly short of the region's urgent needs.
