Israeli Envoy Calls Iran's Criticism Of India's Minority Treatment 'Ridiculous' And 'Hypocritical'
Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, sharply criticized Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's comments regarding minority treatment in India, labelling them as "ridiculous" and hypocritical, on Wednesday.
Azar pointed out that while Khamenei criticizes other nations, Iran itself faces allegations of human rights abuses and suppression of freedoms.

Israeli Envoy Calls Iran's Criticism
"It is utterly absurd for this radical leader to lecture others while oppressing his own people and restricting freedoms such as religion and speech," Azar told PTI. He expressed hope that one day the Iranian people would be liberated from such tyranny.
Khamenei had recently addressed a gathering in Tehran, speaking about the plight of Muslims in Gaza, Myanmar, and India. He accused the "enemies of Islam" of trying to make Muslims indifferent to the suffering of their brethren worldwide. In response, India condemned Khamenei's remarks as "misinformed and unacceptable," urging for respect for its internal matters.
Additionally, Azar briefly addressed the recent tragic events in Lebanon, where multiple pager explosions linked to Hezbollah occurred. He assured that Israel is committed to securing a diplomatic resolution with the assistance of the U.S. and other partners.
On a more positive note, Azar emphasized the growing collaboration between India and Israel, particularly in water management. Speaking at India Water Week, he highlighted Israel's role as a global leader in water innovation and its significant contributions to India's efforts in tackling water scarcity.
Azar detailed the impact of Israeli expertise through the establishment of 32 Centers of Excellence across India, focusing on advanced water management, efficient irrigation systems, and water recycling. These centres are playing a crucial role in improving India's agricultural and urban water infrastructure.
He also noted that Israeli companies are increasingly investing and producing in India, further strengthening the bilateral partnership in water solutions. "Israel's collaboration with India is set to expand as the country continues its infrastructure development and strives to enhance water access for both urban and rural communities," Azar added.
The ambassador's statements underscore the deepening ties between India and Israel, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing water challenges and advancing mutual interests.
