Israel-Palestine War 5th Day: Death Toll Crosses 3000 After Hamas' Attack; Top 10 Developments
The death toll in the ongoing Israel-Palestine war has now surpassed 3,000, and there are grim expectations that the number will continue to rise as Israeli warplanes relentlessly target the Gaza Strip, systematically reducing neighborhoods to rubble. This relentless assault has left the people of Gaza frantically searching for safety in their tiny, sealed-off territory, which is reeling from severe retaliation following the deadly weekend attack by Hamas militants.

Here are the top 10 developments till now:
1. In the midst of this escalating conflict, U.S. President Joe Biden has not minced words, unequivocally condemning the militant group Hamas for what he called "sheer evil." The multi-pronged attack on Israel, launched from the Gaza Strip, has taken a devastating toll, resulting in the tragic loss of hundreds of civilian lives.
2. As per a report in News18, as the conflict rages on into its fifth day, the United States is stepping up its support for Israel. A U.S. plane laden with arms and ammunition has arrived in the region, underscoring the commitment to bolstering Israel's defense capabilities during this perilous time.
3. In a show of solidarity, Indian Americans congregated for a peaceful rally in Chicago, standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel in the wake of the recent terrorist attack orchestrated by the Palestinian militant group, Hamas. Members of the Indian American community voiced a resounding message: "Terrorism is not merely an issue that concerns Israel alone; it is an enduring humanitarian crisis. It is imperative that we take action before it escalates any further."
4. The Israeli Defense Forces have reported that the death toll among Israelis has risen to over 1,000 as a result of the ongoing conflict with Hamas. This update reveals a significant increase from the previously reported figure of 900 casualties. In addition to the tragic loss of life, more than 2,800 Israelis have sustained injuries during the course of this conflict. The IDF has carried out precise strikes on a total of 2,294 Hamas targets as of their latest operational update, issued at 10:00 pm (1900 GMT) on Tuesday, 10th October.
5. The Gaza Strip remains under a relentless assault, with heavy Israeli bombardments from the air, land, and sea, prompting an exodus of more than 260,000 people from their homes, according to the United Nations. UN humanitarian agency OCHA provided a sobering update on Tuesday, reporting that "over 263,934 people in Gaza are believed to have fled their homes."

6. Hamas continued its rocket attacks into Israel on Tuesday, 10th October, with some of these projectiles striking the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. Israel's formidable air defense system, known as the Iron Dome, has been working tirelessly to intercept and neutralize the rockets launched from Gaza since the escalation began.
7. For the residents of Gaza, escaping the relentless bombardments by Israel remains unattainable. According to Palestinian journalist Hassan Jaber, who spoke with CBS News, "There is no safe place in Gaza." He emphasized that the majority of the population in Gaza lacks access to bomb shelters, leaving them exposed to the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict.
8. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has delivered a strong cautionary message to the Assad regime in Syria, urging them to refrain from entering the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. In a further indication of their stance, Abu Dhabi has also warned Damascus against allowing any attacks against Israel to be launched from Syrian territory, as reported by the Axios news site, citing two reliable sources familiar with the situation. These diplomatic efforts are part of a broader US-led initiative aimed at preventing various entities, including Hezbollah and other parties, from becoming involved in the escalating conflict.
9. Israeli officials have reported that Hamas has taken more than 100 people hostage, with some of them being American citizens. Hamas has made a challenging declaration, stating that it will not engage in negotiations for the release of the hostages as long as Gaza remains under fire.
10. As the conflict in Israel continues to escalate, several airlines and cruise lines have taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of their passengers and crew. American Airlines, for instance, made an announcement on Tuesday, 10th October, suspending all flights to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv until at least December 4, 2023.
