Israel Deploys Iron Dome And Personnel In UAE As Iran Launches 550 Missiles And 2,200 Drones

The United Arab Emirates reportedly moved significantly closer to Israel during the recent regional conflict as Iranian missile threats intensified, with Tel Aviv said to have deployed its powerful Iron Dome air defence system to the Gulf nation for the first time ever.

The reported move marks a major strategic shift in Middle East security ties, with Israeli troops allegedly operating the system on Emirati soil amid a wave of missile and drone attacks linked to the war involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

First-ever overseas deployment of Iron Dome reportedly made to UAE

According to a report by US-based outlet Axios, Israel sent "an Iron Dome air defence system with troops to operate it," citing two Israeli officials and one US official. The report said the unusual deployment took place in the early phase of the war.

Axios further stated that this was "the first time Israel had sent an Iron Dome battery to another country," making the UAE "the first country outside of the US and Israel" where the system had been used, a senior Israeli official reportedly said.

If confirmed, the deployment would represent a historic moment for Israel's layered missile defence architecture, which has largely remained within Israeli territory and, in limited cooperation, the United States.

UAE among hardest-hit Gulf states after Iran's barrage

The reported Israeli move came as the UAE emerged as one of the most heavily targeted countries in the region after the conflict broke out on February 28. Emirati authorities said Iran launched an intense wave of attacks since the war with the US and Israel began, firing around 550 ballistic and cruise missiles along with more than 2,200 drones.

The scale of the attacks highlighted the growing vulnerability of Gulf states caught in the wider confrontation, especially those seen as close to Washington or increasingly aligned with Israel. With missile threats mounting, the UAE appears to have turned to direct military coordination with Israel in a way that would have been difficult to imagine under normal regional conditions.

Netanyahu reportedly approved deployment after speaking to Mohammed bin Zayed

Axios reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allegedly decided to send the Iron Dome system after speaking with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed.

The Israel Defence Forces is said to have dispatched one Iron Dome battery, a stock of interceptors and several dozen personnel to operate the system on the ground in the UAE.

Alongside the defensive deployment, the report added that the Israeli Air Force carried out multiple strikes on short-range missile launch positions in southern Iran. These operations were reportedly aimed at neutralising threats before they could reach the UAE and other Gulf states, underlining how the conflict pushed Israel's security operations deeper into the regional theatre.

The development is especially notable because the presence of Israeli military personnel on Emirati territory would ordinarily be politically sensitive. However, the rapidly worsening security situation appears to have altered that equation.

An Emirati official told Axios that, given the scale of the threat, anyone helping defend the country would now be seen in a positive light.

Anwar Gargash says Iranian actions will expand Israel's regional role

The latest developments also align with recent remarks from UAE presidential advisor Anwar Gargash, who earlier this month said Israeli influence in the region would likely increase because of Iran's actions, according to AFP.

Gargash also addressed the UAE's strained ties with Tehran this week, saying rebuilding trust between Abu Dhabi and Iran would take "ages and ages".

The broader conflict was triggered by Israeli and US strikes on Iran in late February, which led Tehran to retaliate against US allies across the Gulf. Although a ceasefire was agreed at the start of this month, efforts to preserve that truce have faltered, leaving the region on edge and raising fresh concerns about another escalation.

The reported Iron Dome deployment to the UAE now stands out as one of the clearest signs yet that the war has redrawn old political boundaries in the Gulf, pushing once-sensitive security partnerships into open strategic cooperation.
