ISKCON temple attacked in Bangladesh, two hurt

Dhaka, Dec 11: At least two people were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on a religious gathering at a temple in Bangladesh, media reported.

The incident took place at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) at Joynanda village in Kaharol in Dinajpur around 8:30pm on Thursday, reported Bdnews24.com.

Assailants fired two rounds and hurled three crude bombs on the gathering. One of the bombs went off, but the others did not, said a witness.

Locals managed to catch one of the attackers who was later arrested by the police. This incident has triggered panic among Hindu minority in the area.

According to the 1951 census, Hindus were 22 per cent of the total population in the country, in 1974 the figure came down to 14 per cent.

According to the last 2011 census, Hindus consist only 8.4 per cent of the population.
