ISIS militants releases over 200 captive Yazidis in Iraq

Baghdad, April 9: ISIS militants have released over 200 captive Yazidis in Iraq from the northern province of Kirkuk. Most of them released are women and children.

Some of the released members are elders and some even ill. Officials say that the reason behind their release is not known but talks were on with the tribal sheikhs for the release and the tribals seemed to have felicitated the same.

ISIS releases over 200 captive Yazidis

The Yazidis were freed on Monday but made their way into a Kurdish-controlled territory only after two days.

This is the second time that ISIS militants have released a large number of captive Yazidis. In January this year, the ISIS militants had released close to 200 Yazidis most of them being elder people.

Yazidis are one of the oldest religious communities in the world and have suffered persecution, with many Muslims referring to them as devil worshipers. The Yazidis have often been targeted by the ISIS as the terror group has executed many of them.

The UN has said the IS campaign of killings, abductions and rape against Yazidis may amount to genocide.
