Is Biden Facing Impeachment? Republicans Launch New Probe Into Corruption Allegations

Congressional Republicans officially initiated an impeachment case against U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday, strategically timing the move with the start of the Democratic National Convention.

Despite the political spectacle, the effort is widely seen as unlikely to gain serious momentum.

Is Biden Facing Impeachment? - Here are the FACTs

The impeachment report, spearheaded by three influential Republican-led committees in the House of Representatives, accuses Biden of corruption related to his son Hunter Biden's overseas business dealings. Jim Jordan, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, claimed that the investigation "conclusively" demonstrated Biden's alleged misuse of public office for the financial gain of his family and business associates, as reported by Firspost.

James Comer, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, echoed this sentiment, stating, "President Biden's legacy is marked by abuse of public office, corruption, and obstruction. The evidence from our impeachment inquiry is the strongest case ever investigated against a sitting president by the House of Representatives."

However, the report lacks direct evidence that Biden used his office to benefit his son or was involved in Hunter's business activities. Instead, it relies heavily on inferences and suggestions about the relationship between father and son, without providing a definitive "smoking gun."

Biden, who is expected to give a pivotal speech at the Democratic convention and pass the political leadership to Vice President Kamala Harris, has consistently denied any involvement in or support for his son's business ventures in Ukraine and China, as reported by Firstpost.

For years, Republicans have used Hunter Biden's foreign connections and personal struggles, including his recovery from drug addiction, to attempt to undermine the president. However, the lengthy efforts to build an impeachment case against Biden, seen by some as retaliation for the two impeachments of former President Donald Trump, have yet to result in a formal vote in the House.

With a razor-thin majority, Republicans face the risk of internal division, which could lead to significant embarrassment if they fail to unite on the impeachment issue.
