Iran's Top War Commander Ali Shadmani Killed In Israeli Airstrike On Tehran
Ali Shadmani, Iran's newly appointed wartime chief of staff and one of its highest-ranking military officials, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a key command center in central Tehran late on June 17, 2025. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the operation was carried out based on "precise intelligence" and a "sudden opportunity," targeting Shadmani due to his position as Iran's chief operational commander and his close ties to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Shadmani had only recently stepped into the role following the death of his predecessor, Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, who was killed in a previous Israeli strike that marked the beginning of the current conflict. In his position as head of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters-Iran's top military crisis command-Shadmani was responsible for overseeing military operations and approving combat plans, including those directed at Israel. He had direct authority over both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the conventional Iranian military.

The IDF characterized Shadmani's death as a major setback for Iran's military command, calling it a strategic blow that further disrupts Tehran's operational leadership amid intensifying clashes. As of now, Iranian authorities have not issued an official confirmation of Shadmani's death.
