Iran Reacts to US Strikes: ‘Prepared to Defend Itself by Any Means’
In the first official response to the US airstrikes, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned the attack, stating that Iran reserves the right to defend itself against what he described as a "grave violation" of international law.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi said, "The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law, and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) by launching airstrikes on Iran's peaceful nuclear installations."

He added that the airstrikes represent a dangerous escalation with potentially long-lasting consequences. "This morning's events are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Every member of the United Nations must be alarmed by this lawless, dangerous, and criminal behavior."
Reiterating Iran's stance, Araghchi emphasized the country's right to self-defense. "In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions for legitimate self-defense, Iran reserves all options to protect its sovereignty, interests, and people."
The statement comes amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, with global attention now focused on the next steps both countries may take.
