Air raid sirens sounded across major Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, as defence systems worked to intercept incoming projectiles.

Israel confirmed that its air defence network, including advanced interception systems, was activated nationwide. Explosions were reported in several areas as interceptions took place mid-air, while some missiles are believed to have struck open areas and infrastructure sites. Authorities declared a nationwide emergency, urging residents to remain in shelters as fears of additional waves mounted.

The Iranian barrage came after US President Donald Trump publicly acknowledged American involvement in the earlier operation targeting Iran's strategic facilities. Trump reiterated that Iran "can never have a nuclear weapon," describing the strikes as a pre-emptive move to neutralise imminent threats.

Escalation Follows Strikes on Tehran and Key Iranian Sites

The crisis deepened after joint US-Israel strikes hit locations in Tehran, Isfahan, and other cities, reportedly targeting political leadership compounds, military installations and nuclear-linked facilities. Iranian state media showed images of smoke rising from several sites, while authorities temporarily shut down airspace and restricted communications in parts of the capital.

In response to Iran's missile barrage, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that further retaliation would follow if attacks continued. Israeli officials stated that military operations remain ongoing and that additional targets inside Iran are under review.
