Iran-Israel War This Week? US Alerts For Possible Major Iranian Attack On Israel This Week

A warning has been issued by the United States regarding potential "significant" attacks on Israel, with such an assault possibly occurring within this week.

This alert was announced by White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby on Monday amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, as reported by ANI.

Discussions with the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy were held by President Joe Biden in an effort to de-escalate the situation. According to The Times of Israel, Kirby stated, "We share the same concerns and expectations that our Israeli counterparts have with respect to potential timing here. Could be this week." He emphasized the need for preparation against what could be a substantial series of attacks.

The conversation between the leaders was aimed at reiterating support for Israel's defense and delivering a strong message against any increase in violence or attacks by Iran or its proxies, as reported by ANI. A joint statement issued by President Biden and the European leaders called on Iran to retract its threats of a military strike against Israel. It also highlighted the serious repercussions for regional security should such an attack occur.

The joint statement stressed the urgent need for aid delivery and distribution, and affirmed support for efforts to de-escalate tensions and secure a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza, as per media reports. The leaders endorsed a renewed push for talks later this week to finalize a deal as soon as possible, stressing that there is no time to lose. They also called for all parties to fulfill their responsibilities and emphasized the necessity of unrestricted aid.

The heightened tensions follow the death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month, which led to threats of retaliation from Iran. Although Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for Haniyeh's death, it had previously indicated potential action against him and other senior Hamas figures involved in the October 7 terrorist attacks, as reported.

The escalation in West Asia was further fueled by the announcement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on July 31 regarding Haniyeh's killing. The IRGC reported that Haniyeh and a bodyguard were killed in an attack on their residence in Tehran.

On July 30, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported the killing of top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in a strike in southern Lebanon, which was a response to a rocket attack on the Golan Heights that resulted in the deaths of 12 children. Shukr was a high-ranking Hezbollah military leader involved in managing attacks against Israel since the October 7 Hamas strike.
