Iran Fires Missiles at Israel Amid Escalating Tensions from Ground Raids in Lebanon
The Israeli military has reported that Iran launched missiles at Israel, prompting a warning for Israelis to seek shelter. This announcement came after a senior U.S. official indicated that Iran was preparing for an imminent missile attack on Israel. The U.S. is actively supporting Israel's defensive measures in response to this threat.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously issued a warning to Iran, which supports Hezbollah and Hamas. He stated, "There is nowhere in the Middle East Israel cannot reach." This statement followed an airstrike near Beirut that killed a Hezbollah leader backed by Tehran. The Israeli military also advised residents of southern Lebanese communities near the border to evacuate due to ongoing operations against Hezbollah targets.
Iran's Missile Launch and Israeli Response
Iran has claimed responsibility for launching dozens of ballistic missiles at Israel, as announced on state television. This action was described as retaliation for the deaths of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders in recent Israeli airstrikes. Iran warned that any military response from Israel would result in a harsher retaliation, indicating this attack was just the "first wave."
The Israeli military confirmed the missile attack from Iran, with air raid sirens sounding across the country. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stated, "The air defense system is fully operational," as explosions were heard in Tel Aviv and near Jerusalem. Residents were instructed to remain close to bomb shelters as the situation unfolded.
International Reactions and Evacuation Plans
The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon to prevent further escalation between Israel and Hezbollah. He emphasized respecting Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity while urging international support for humanitarian efforts.
Turkey has prepared evacuation plans for its citizens in Lebanon due to the worsening situation. The Turkish Foreign Ministry has established a coordination center to assist those wishing to leave, with plans involving both sea and air routes. Several countries have sought Turkey's help in evacuating their citizens.
US and Global Concerns
The U.S. State Department has instructed diplomats and their families in Israel and the West Bank to shelter in place amid security concerns related to potential Iranian missile attacks. The embassy in Jerusalem highlighted the complex security environment and urged American citizens to make informed security plans.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the Biden administration is closely monitoring developments between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. He reaffirmed the U.S.'s commitment to Israel's defense but did not specifically address the potential Iranian missile threat identified by the White House.
Regional Tensions and Military Actions
An Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building near Beirut, causing damage but no immediate reports of casualties. The strike hit an apartment near Beirut International Airport and close to the Iranian Embassy. The Israeli military confirmed the attack but provided no further details.
In response to these tensions, Bulgaria has been evacuating its citizens from Lebanon, with a government jet making multiple trips to Beirut. Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev reported that 61 Bulgarians requested evacuation on the second day, with additional seats offered to EU citizens.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Israel's actions in southern Lebanon, suggesting that Turkey could be targeted next. In a speech, he condemned both international and Islamic communities for not stopping Netanyahu's actions in Gaza and Lebanon, vowing support for Lebanon against Israeli aggression.
The situation remains tense as both regional and international actors respond to escalating conflicts involving Israel, Iran, Hezbollah, and other parties. Efforts continue to manage the crisis while ensuring civilian safety amid ongoing threats.
