The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, was attributed to a gas leak. Over 20 people sustained injuries in the blast that took place in South Khorasan province.

The explosion happened around 21:00 local time (17:30 GMT) in Tabas, approximately 540 km southeast of Tehran. It was reportedly caused by a methane gas explosion affecting two blocks within the mine. Emergency services have been dispatched to the site to assist with rescue efforts.
