Iran Approves Suspension Of Cooperation With IAEA Bill

Iran's parliament has passed a bill to halt cooperation with the U.N. nuclear watchdog, as reported by state-affiliated Nournews. This decision comes after an air conflict with Israel which opposes Iran's potential development nuclear weapons. The requires approval from Iran Guardian Council to become.

The bill mandates that any future inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) must receive approval from Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that Iran plans to speed up its civilian nuclear programme.

Iran's Response to IAEA and Israel

Tehran denies pursuing nuclear weapons and claims an IAEA resolution accusing it of breaching non-proliferation obligations led to Israeli attacks. Qalibaf criticized the IAEA for not condemning the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities, accusing it of compromising its international credibility.

"For this reason, the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran will suspend its cooperation with the Agency until the security of the nuclear facilities is guaranteed, and move at a faster pace with the country's peaceful nuclear programme," Qalibaf said.

Impact on Inspections and Surveillance

The national security committee in parliament approved the bill's general outline earlier this week. The committee spokesperson mentioned that the bill would halt surveillance camera installations, inspections, and report submissions to the IAEA.

The IAEA has not yet commented on this development. Meanwhile, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi expressed his intention to reinstate inspectors at Iranian sites, including those enriching uranium before Israeli strikes on June 13.

Uncertain Future for Nuclear Programme

The full extent of damage caused by Israeli attacks and U.S. bombings on Iranian nuclear facilities remains unclear. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told Qatar's Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that changes in Iran's approach to its nuclear programme and non-proliferation regime are expected, though their direction is uncertain.
