Iowa Man Allegedly Kills Six Relatives Across Multiple Locations Before Dying By Suicide

A series of shootings across the city of Muscatine in the US state of Iowa left seven people dead on Monday, including the suspected gunman, according to local authorities. Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute and said all of the victims are believed to have been related to the suspect.

Four Victims Found Dead at First Crime Scene

The investigation began shortly after noon when the Muscatine County Joint Communications Center received reports of a shooting at a residence located at 210 Park Avenue.

Police officers and emergency medical teams rushed to the location after the call was received at around 12:12 pm. Upon entering the home, they discovered four people suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to authorities, all four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators also received information suggesting that there could be additional victims elsewhere in the city.

Suspect Located With Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Muscatine Police identified the suspected shooter as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine.

In an official statement, police said: "The suspect, identified as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, had left the residence prior to officers' arrival. Law enforcement located McFarland a short time later on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers and EMS personnel provided medical aid, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Authorities said McFarland later succumbed to his injuries, bringing the death toll to five at that stage of the investigation.

Additional Victims Discovered at Two Other Locations

As detectives continued examining the case, they uncovered evidence pointing to further crime scenes.

Police said: "As the investigation progressed, detectives developed information indicating there may be additional victims. Officers subsequently located an adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence at 1509 Mill Street. A further search led officers to a business at 808 Grandview Avenue, where another adult male was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound."

The discovery of the two additional victims raised the total number of deaths to seven, including the suspect.

Investigation Continues Across Multiple Crime Scenes

Investigators believe the shootings were linked to a domestic-related dispute. According to police, all of the victims are "believed to be family members of the deceased suspect".

The Muscatine Police Department is working with several agencies as the investigation continues.

"The Muscatine Police Department is receiving assistance from the Muscatine Fire Department, the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation," the department said.

Authorities noted that detectives are still processing multiple crime scenes and interviewing witnesses as they work to determine the full sequence of events.
