The priest was abducted in Yemen in 2016 and since then efforts are on to secure him.
The priest from Kottayam, who has been taken to Muscat, will be flown back to Kerala later today. It was reported that the priest was rescued after the intervention of the Oman foreign ministry.
Efforts were being made to rescue the priest for long. The union government had time and again assured it would manage to secure the release. For the family finally some good news came after an anxious wait of over one and half years.
The priest's rescue from his kidnappers was facilitated after Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said Al Said looked into the matter.
Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan, expressed pleasure over the release of the pastor.
He said, "Happy to hear about the release of Father Tom (Kerala priest), it is learnt that Oman played a crucial role in his release."
