Indian-Origin Student Mysteriously Disappears While Vacationing in the Caribbean

Authorities in the Dominican Republic are conducting an urgent search for Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student who disappeared while on a spring break trip in Punta Cana.

Konanki was last seen on Thursday walking along the beach, and she has not been heard from since.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they were contacted on Thursday evening regarding a missing woman from Loudoun County who was traveling in Punta Cana with a group.

A missing person's report describes Konanki as 5 feet 3 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a brown bikini, large round earrings, a metal designer anklet on her right leg, yellow and steel bracelets on her right hand, and a multicolored beaded bracelet on her left hand.

The University of Pittsburgh has acknowledged the situation, stating that they are in contact with her family and law enforcement. "University officials are in communication with Sudiksha Konanki's family and authorities in Loudoun County, Virginia, and we have offered our full support in efforts to locate her and bring her home safely," said university spokesperson Jared Stonesifer.

Search and rescue teams, including Defensa Civil, launched a search operation on Saturday evening, but efforts were suspended around 8 p.m. due to nightfall. Authorities have confirmed that the search will continue on Sunday.

Konanki, a promising student, is expected to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh in 2026. Before college, she attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as the search intensifies.
