Indian-Origin Man Sindeep Singh Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murdering His Mother in Leicester
A 48-year-old man of Indian descent has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his 76-year-old mother in their Leicester home. Sindeep Singh was arrested after police found Bhajan Kaur with severe head and facial injuries on May 13. Following a 16-day trial at Leicester Crown Court, Singh was convicted of murder and must serve at least 31 years before parole eligibility.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team stated, "This was a deeply disturbing case which uncovered the lengths Singh went to, to cover his tracks." He explained that after the murder, Singh purchased a sack barrow and spade intending to bury Kaur's body but was interrupted before he could do so. The house had been cleaned, leaving a strong smell of disinfectant, indicating planning after her death.
Family's Distress and Investigation Details
The investigation revealed that Singh acted following disputes over the family home's ownership, which he believed was left to him by his deceased father. Detective Sinski noted the family's distress, saying, "This has been an extremely distressing and challenging time for Mrs Kaur’s family, they have been left devastated at the loss of their dear mother." He praised their courage during the investigation and trial.
Singh initially provided false information when approached by officers and claimed ignorance of the incident. However, evidence showed he had been living in his car on the driveway and entered the house on the day of the murder after Kaur let him in. CCTV footage captured Singh leaving later that day to buy a sack and spade from a nearby shop.
Previous Incidents and Trial Proceedings
Before this tragic event, Kaur had reported Singh for his behaviour. He was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour but released on bail while investigations continued. The court heard these details during the trial, which was difficult for Kaur's family as they listened to her final moments' account.
When relatives couldn't reach Kaur, they visited her home on Bolsover Street and discovered her body. Police found a large hole dug in the garden, suggesting Singh's intention to bury her there. Detective Sinski expressed regret that the case required a trial, forcing the family to endure such painful proceedings.
The tragic loss of Bhajan Kaur has left her family grieving deeply. They now face the harsh reality that one of their own took her life. The legal process has concluded with Singh's conviction, but the emotional impact on those left behind remains profound.
