Indian-Origin Businessman Shot Outside His House In Canada

A businessman of Indian descent, aged 68, was fatally shot in his car outside his residence in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The police have indicated that the shooting was targeted. Currently, no arrests have been made, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is handling the case.

Darshan Singh Sahsi, originally from Ludhiana, was the president of Canam International. His son Arpan described the company as one of the largest clothing recyclers globally. On Monday morning, Abbotsford Police responded to a shooting report on Ridgeview Drive. Officers secured the area and found a man with life-threatening injuries inside a parked vehicle.

Targeted Attack Raises Concerns

The nature of this attack has led to concerns about possible connections to extortion attempts targeting the South Asian community. However, police have not confirmed any such links. Paul Walker from the Abbotsford Police Department stated that it is too early to determine a motive or any connection to extortion-related crimes.

Despite efforts by first responders to save him, Sahsi succumbed to his injuries. The shooter had waited in a nearby parked car and opened fire when Sahsi entered his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Community Shocked by Tragedy

Sahsi's son Arpan expressed disbelief over the incident, stating that there were no threats or extortion attempts against his father. "Of course we're devastated because it does not make sense to us," he said. The family has received numerous messages of support from the local community.

Arpan also shared that his father was known for his philanthropic efforts and helping others. He hopes to continue this legacy. "I usually went to work with him every day, so I was supposed to be in that truck today," he added.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek answers regarding this tragic event. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is leading efforts to uncover more details about the motive behind this targeted attack.
