Indian Nurse Sentenced in Singapore for Molestation of Male Hospital Visitor

An Indian staff nurse working at a leading Singapore hospital has been sentenced to one year and two months in jail, along with two strokes of the cane, after pleading guilty to a molestation charge.

Incident at Raffles Hospital

Elipe Siva Nagu, 34, molested a male visitor at Raffles Hospital in June, claiming he wanted to "disinfect" the victim, according to The Straits Times. Following the incident, Elipe was immediately suspended from his nursing duties.

The victim experienced flashbacks of the ordeal, the court was told. Details about the victim, including his age, were kept confidential in court documents.

What Happened During the Molestation

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua explained that the victim had gone to the hospital on North Bridge Road on June 18 to visit his grandfather, who was admitted there. Around 7.30 pm, the victim entered a patient's toilet, where Elipe looked inside.

On the pretext of wanting to "disinfect" him, Elipe applied soap on his hand and molested the victim, said DPP Phua. The startled visitor did not react immediately, shocked by the act, and later returned to his grandfather's bedside.

Arrest and Sentencing

The molestation was reported on June 21, and Elipe was arrested two days later. On Friday, the court handed down a sentence of one year and two months' imprisonment, along with two strokes of the cane.
