Indian MBBS Student, Dasari Chandu, Dies In Kyrgyzstan

Dasari Chandu, originally from Madugula village in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalle, was in the second year of his MBBS studies, as reported by The Times of India. He had recently completed his second-year exams and was on an outing with four friends, also from Andhra Pradesh when the accident occurred. Chandu had travelled to Kyrgyzstan last year to pursue his MBBS degree.

Chandu's parents reached out to the Union minister and Telangana state BJP president G Kishan Reddy to assist in repatriating their son's remains. Reddy was said to be in communication with officials in Kyrgyzstan to make arrangements for bringing Chandu's body back to India, as reported by NDTV.

Additionally, Chandu's parents maintained contact with Anakapalle MP B Venkata Sathyavathi, who informed The Siasat Daily that Reddy had contacted the Indian embassy in Kyrgyzstan to seek assistance in repatriation. Chandu, the son of Dasari Bheem Raju, the owner of Anakapalle's renowned 'Madugula Halwa' sweet shop, tragically met his untimely demise in this unfortunate incident.

In February, during a parliamentary session, external affairs minister S Jaishankar disclosed that 403 Indian students had died abroad since 2018 due to various reasons, including natural causes, accidents, and medical conditions. He emphasized that Indian missions/posts abroad prioritize responding to issues faced by Indian students.

According to data from news agency PTI until February, the number of Indian student deaths reported included 91 in Canada, 36 in the US, 48 in the UK, 35 in Australia, 40 in Russia, 20 in Germany, 21 in Ukraine, 14 in Cyprus, and 10 each in the Philippines and Italy, with nine each in Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, and China.
