Ghosh's fraudulent activities involved billing Medicaid and private insurers for services that were never provided. She also exaggerated the length and complexity of patient visits, both in-office and via telemedicine, to obtain higher reimbursement rates. Her plea agreement revealed that she prepared false medical records to back these fraudulent claims.

US District Judge Franklin U Valderrama will sentence Ghosh on October 22. Federal prosecutors claim she is responsible for at least $2.4 million in fraudulent reimbursements. However, Ghosh admitted to being accountable for over $1.5 million of the fraudulently obtained funds.

Extent of Fraudulent Claims

From 2018 to 2022, Ghosh submitted false claims to Medicaid, TRICARE, and other insurers for unnecessary procedures and services. Some of these procedures were performed without patient consent. The court will determine the final amount of fraud at sentencing.

Ghosh's fraudulent actions included using incorrect billing codes to seek higher reimbursement rates. This was part of her strategy to inflate the cost of services that were either not provided or not medically necessary.

The media release noted that the final amount of fraudulently obtained reimbursements would be decided by the court during sentencing. Ghosh's admission highlights the extent of her involvement in the healthcare fraud scheme.

The case underscores the importance of integrity in medical billing practices. It also serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of defrauding healthcare systems.

Ghosh's guilty plea brings attention to the need for stringent oversight in healthcare billing. It also highlights the role of federal authorities in uncovering and prosecuting such fraudulent activities.

The upcoming sentencing will provide closure on this case, determining the exact penalties Ghosh will face for her actions.
