India Slovakia partnership talks cover digitalisation, defence, and nuclear energy in Bratislava

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini in Bratislava to review the growing India–Slovakia partnership. Their discussions covered digitalisation and digital technology, innovation, defence cooperation, and nuclear energy, alongside manufacturing, transport, investment linkages, and biofuels. Both leaders also highlighted continued people-to-people ties and recalled Pellegrini’s February 2026 India visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini on Monday in Bratislava. The leaders reviewed the expanding India-Slovakia partnership. The talks covered digitalisation, innovation, defence, and nuclear energy. The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace. Both sides noted steady cooperation and spoke about next steps in several sectors.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the leaders welcomed stronger links in trade and investment. The statement also cited technology ties and people-to-people contacts. The two leaders also spoke about regional and global developments of shared interest. The meeting followed India and Slovakia upgrading ties to a comprehensive partnership.

India Slovakia talks focus on digital technology and wider cooperation

Modi said the discussions ranged across manufacturing, transport, and investment linkages. Energy, biofuels, and innovation were also on the agenda. "Todays talks with President Pellegrini covered diverse subjects such as closer ties in manufacturing, transport, innovation and investment linkages, energy, biofuels and more,\" Modi wrote on social media.

Modi also flagged future work in digital fields and public contacts. \"There is also immense scope to cooperate in the field of digital technology. We also talked about deepening people-to-people linkages,\" Modi added. The leaders recalled Pellegrini’s February 2026 visit to India. Pellegrini had attended the AI Impact Summit then.

Pellegrini referred to that earlier meeting in a social media post. \"I am glad that @narendramodi and I can build on the open and friendly dialogue we began during my visit to New Delhi this February,\" Pellegrini wrote. Modi responded online as well. \"Happy to have continued the important conversations we had when we last met. Your insights are indeed great to hear,\" Modi said.

India Slovakia comprehensive partnership includes 11 agreements

Earlier, India and Slovakia raised their relationship to a comprehensive partnership. They also finalised 11 agreements. These covered areas such as migration, digital technology, and defence. The agreements followed talks between Modi and Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico. The steps aimed to widen cooperation across multiple sectors.

Modi and Fico also met Slovak business and industry leaders. The discussions included railways, defence, and the automotive sector. Energy, nuclear energy, IT, and healthcare were also covered. \"Had insightful discussions on strengthening economic ties, boosting investment flows and expanding collaboration in innovation, technology, manufacturing and more,\" Modi said after the meeting.

Modi highlighted India’s reform direction and asked firms to deepen ties. Modi also pointed to business opportunities and investment potential. Randhir Jaiswal said Modi highlighted reforms and policy initiatives. Jaiswal named the SHANTI Act. Jaiswal added that Modi encouraged Slovak companies to use opportunities in India.

Jaiswal said the two sides discussed deeper economic engagement and more tech cooperation. The areas included transportation and green energy. Emerging technology and defence production were also mentioned. The MEA said Modi invited Slovak companies to explore infrastructure and defence. Renewable energy, digital innovation, semiconductors, AI, and healthcare were also listed.

India Slovakia meetings included cultural events at the Presidential Palace

After the meeting, Modi and Pellegrini attended events at the Presidential Palace. They viewed a painting exhibition by Slovak artists. The exhibition theme was \"Varanasi City\". The leaders also watched a special Yoga demonstration. Slovak school children took part. Later, Pellegrini hosted a banquet dinner in Modi’s honour.

The MEA said both leaders discussed expanding cooperation across diverse areas. Randhir Jaiswal also wrote that the talks aimed to advance warm relations. Slovak industry leaders welcomed India’s reforms linked to Viksit Bharat. They expressed confidence in India’s economic trajectory. The MEA also said they welcomed the conclusion of the India-EU FTA.

Officials said the meetings in Bratislava reflected growing engagement between India and Slovakia. Discussions covered strategic sectors such as defence and nuclear energy. They also addressed trade, investment, and technology. Cultural events at the Presidential Palace added a public dimension. Both sides noted existing cooperation and outlined areas for closer work ahead.
