Modi Emphasises Ambitious Goals for India During Third Term as a Land of Opportunities
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering of Indian-Americans in New York, describing India as a land brimming with opportunities. He shared his ambitious goals for his third term, emphasising a three-fold sense of responsibility. Modi highlighted the significance of the mandate received this year, noting it was the first time in 60 years that such a mandate was given.

Modi expressed confidence in India's achievements, stating that India is no longer waiting for opportunities but creating them. He mentioned that 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty in the past decade due to a change in mindset and approach. "We empowered the poor," he told the audience, attributing this success to the new middle class driving India's development.
India's Global Role and Aspirations
The Prime Minister announced plans to open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, addressing a long-standing demand from the Indian-American community. He also spoke about India's foreign policy, which focuses on maintaining equal closeness with all countries rather than keeping equal distance. Modi reiterated his statement, "This is not the time for war," highlighting India's role as a first responder during global disasters.
Modi emphasised India's commitment to global growth and peace, stating that India's goal is not to increase its global influence but to contribute to prosperity. He noted that India aims for human-centric growth rather than GDP-centric growth. "India does not want to seek its global dominance," he said, comparing India to the sun that provides brightness without causing destruction.
Technological Progress and Cultural Celebration
Highlighting India's digital advancements, Modi mentioned that while people in America carry wallets, Indians use digital wallets. He expressed confidence in India's technological future, stating, "No one can stop India now." Modi also spoke about India's aspiration to become the third-largest economy globally from its current fifth position.
The event featured cultural performances showcasing India's diversity. The Echoes of India - A Journey Through Art and Tradition included performances by renowned artists like Chandrika Tandon and Aishwarya Majumdar. Organisers noted over 30 performances paid tribute to India's rich cultural heritage.
Indian-Americans' Contribution and Recognition
Modi praised Indian-Americans for strengthening ties between India and the US, calling them India's brand ambassadors. He remarked on their contributions to societal and national development wherever they reside. Referring to a Sanskrit shloka, he said those who make sacrifices reap benefits.
The Prime Minister shared a personal moment with President Biden during his visit to Delaware, expressing gratitude for the warmth shown towards him and respect for Indians worldwide. He acknowledged Indian-Americans' role in making both their country and community proud.
Reflecting on democracy's celebration globally, Modi noted the recent elections in India were the largest in history. He expressed pride in India's democratic scale and mentioned ongoing elections in the US. Modi also highlighted India's efforts to host the 2036 Olympics following the T-20 World Cup held recently in the US.
As Modi concluded his address, he reiterated his dedication to good governance and a prosperous India. He shared how destiny led him into politics without initially aspiring to be a leader. Over ten years of governance have earned him trust for a third term, he added.
