India Gets Temporary Relief As US Freezes Additional Tariffs For 90 Days

According to White House executive orders, the United States has halted the additional 26% import tariff on Indian goods for 90 days, until July 9, 2025. This comes after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on countries like India and imposed universal duties on roughly 60 countries that export goods to the US on April 2.

Along with rival nations like Thailand, Vietnam, and China, India was also subject to an additional 26% import duty. However, China, including Hong Kong and Macau, is exempt from the tariff suspension.

"Effective with respect to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on April 10, 2025, enforcement of the second paragraph of section 3(a) of Executive Order 14257 is suspended until 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on July 9, 2025," the White House order says.

The implementation of reciprocal tariffs is described in the second paragraph of Section 3(a) of the executive order issued on April 2. Annex 1, which details the tariff rates for various nations, is part of it.

The 10% baseline tariff on all nations, including India, is still in place despite the brief suspension.
