India Denounces Trudeau's Allegations: 'Naked Interference And Hostility'
The Indian government has strongly condemned the recent allegations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which assert that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are "persons of interest" in a Canadian investigation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described these claims as "preposterous imputations," attributing them to Trudeau's political motives and efforts to appeal to his vote bank.

In a detailed statement, the MEA expressed its rejection of Canada's diplomatic communication, emphasizing that the accusations were unfounded and politically motivated. "The Government of India strongly rejects these preposterous imputations and ascribes them to the political agenda of the Trudeau Government centered around vote bank politics," the statement read.
Background of the Allegations
The controversy stems from Canada's accusations that Indian officials were involved in the murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In response, India has categorically denied these claims and requested evidence to substantiate the serious allegations. The MEA noted, "Justin Trudeau's hostility towards India has been long known," referring to past incidents that indicate a pattern of strained relations.
The MEA highlighted Trudeau's 2018 visit to India, which they claimed was aimed at winning over a specific voter demographic but ended up damaging his reputation. Additionally, it pointed out that members of Trudeau's Cabinet have previously associated with extremist agendas related to India.
Allegations of Interference
India further criticized Trudeau for his "naked interference in Indian internal politics," citing his actions during a 2020 event as evidence of his willingness to meddle in India's affairs. The MEA asserted that Trudeau's government has sought to deflect criticism over foreign interference in Canadian politics by targeting India. This latest diplomatic spat coincides with Trudeau's upcoming appearance before a commission investigating foreign interference, leading India to suggest that the allegations against its diplomats serve an ulterior motive.
Moreover, the MEA emphasized that since Trudeau's allegations surfaced in September 2023, Canada has failed to provide any evidence to support its claims despite numerous requests. It labeled this ongoing situation as a smear campaign against India conducted under the guise of investigation.
Hostility Towards Indian Diplomats
The MEA condemned the environment created by the Trudeau government, which, it alleges, has allowed terrorists and extremists to threaten and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada. The statement also noted that such activities are often justified in the name of "freedom of speech."
In closing, the MEA dismissed the allegations against High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma as ludicrous and deserving of contempt. It stated that India is closely monitoring the activities of the Canadian High Commission in India, suggesting that these efforts serve the current regime's political agenda. The MEA reserved the right to take further action in response to these accusations against Indian diplomats.
This diplomatic row marks another chapter in the tense relations between India and Canada, raising questions about the future of their bilateral ties and the implications for international diplomacy.
