India Criticizes Bangladesh’s Handling Of Minority Safety After Hindu Leader’s Death

The deputy president of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad's Biral unit, Bhabesh Chandra Roy, was kidnapped and later killed by beating. On Thursday night, his body was found. Roy reportedly received a call at approximately 4:30 PM from his kidnappers, who wanted to make sure he was home. The media received this information from his wife, Shantana.

The murder occurs as ties between Bangladesh and India are worsening. Since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left office in August of last year after widespread demonstrations against her administration, tensions have increased. Bilateral relations have been even more strained as a result of the interim administration, led by Yunus, unable to confront the rising violence against minority groups, particularly Hindus.

Regarding the unrest in West Bengal, India also criticized recent remarks made by Bangladeshi officials, advising Dhaka to prioritize safeguarding the rights of its own minority before "virtue signaling."
