Imran Khan More Dangerous Than Narendra Modi: Pakistan Defence Minister

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khwaja M Asif has reportedly said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan is a bigger threat to his country than Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Citing the protests that erupted on May 9 after Imran Khan's arrest, he said a person within "us" is more dangerous than a person who is standing "in front of you."

"Your foreign enemy is known to you. In Pakistan, the people are still unable to identify the enemy who was born here and is a bigger threat than the enemy from that nation (India). Imran Khan is more dangerous for Pakistan than Narendra Modi and people are not able to see this. He is present among us. Who is more dangerous? One who is among us or the one standing in front of you on the other side?" India Today quoted Asif as saying in an interview with a Pakistani TV channel.

He further said, "This enemy is actually a bigger threat to our security and May 9 is proof of that. It was rebellion. It was a mutiny,"

The clip of the interview is now going viral on social media sites.

In a dramatic move, Pakistan's anti-corruption agency arrested former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Islamabad High Court on May 9 following which violent protests broke out across the country.

His party workers vandalised a dozen military installations, including the Lahore Corps Commander's House. Law enforcement agencies have arrested over 10,000 workers across Pakistan, 4,000 of them from Punjab.

At least 19 people died in the violence that erupted after his arrest. However, Khan has stated that he had no role in the attacks on military installations, especially the Jinnah House.

It is interesting to note that there have been a lot of references being made to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Pakistani politicians in the last one year.

In January, leaders from Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) used an old clip of Indian PM Modi to target the ruling party.

The clip from PM Modi's 2019 Lok Sabha election rally was shared by the leaders of PTI. In the video, the Prime Minister was seen ripping apart the then-Pakistan government.

"We destroyed Pakistan's arrogance, forced them to go around the globe with a begging bowl." He made the comments in Rajasthan's Barmer.
