Imran Khan Death Rumour: Was Former Pakistan PM Murdered in Jail on Asim Munir’s Orders?

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has become the subject of a viral death hoax, with controversial reports claiming he died under mysterious circumstances while in judicial custody. The claim is accompanied by what appears to be an official press release, allegedly issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan, dated May 10, 2025.

The press release, numbered No. 427/2025, states,"It is with deep regret and solemnity that we confirm the passing of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in judicial custody. The incident occurred under circumstances that are currently under thorough investigation..."

However, no credible news outlet, official government source, or independent body has confirmed Imran Khan's death. Experts and fact-checkers have flagged the viral post and the press release as potentially fabricated.

The image accompanying the rumour-a photograph of Imran Khan appearing injured-has also been identified as misleading. It dates back to 2013, when Imran Khan sustained injuries after falling from a makeshift stage during a campaign rally in Lahore. The same image was circulated during similar unfounded rumours in May 2023, when he was taken into custody.

Fact-checkers have debunked the latest claims, labelling them as baseless and fabricated. At the time of publishing, no official update or medical report has been released that supports any claim regarding Khan's death.

Social media users and supporters have urged authorities to provide clarity, while others warn against spreading misinformation in the absence of reliable sources.

As of now, Imran Khan remains in judicial custody, and reports of his death are unsubstantiated.
