Illegal Indian Immigrant Trucker Kills 3 In US; Punjabi Man Was High On Drugs, Say Cops

A devastating multi-vehicle crash on California's 10 Freeway has left three people dead and four others hospitalized, with a 21-year-old truck driver now facing serious criminal charges. The driver, Jashanpreet Singh of Yuba City, was arrested at the scene on Tuesday afternoon after his freightliner tractor-trailer slammed into a line of slow-moving vehicles near the I-15 junction in Ontario.

Dashcam footage captured the moment Singh's truck rear-ended an SUV and triggered a chain reaction involving eight vehicles, including four commercial trucks. According to investigators, Singh never attempted to brake before impact. Toxicology tests later confirmed he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

Singh, an Indian national, reportedly entered the United States illegally in 2022. Federal officials say he was apprehended by Border Patrol in California's El Centro sector and released pending an immigration hearing-a process that never reached resolution.

He now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. Singh is being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center in San Bernardino County, with his next court appearance scheduled for Thursday at Rancho Superior Court in Rancho Cucamonga.

Authorities are still investigating whether Singh held a valid commercial driver's license at the time of the crash. The California Highway Patrol has not yet released details on the victims, but confirmed all were adults.
