ICC Issues Arrest Warrants For Israeli PM Netanyahu, Gallant, Hamas Leader Over War Crimes
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. These warrants, announced on Thursday, November 21, are for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes amidst the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The ICC has classified these warrants as "secret" to protect the integrity of the investigations.
Arrest Warrants Issued
According to the ICC's statement, the arrest warrants pertain to actions committed from October 8, 2023, until May 20, 2024. The court found "reasonable grounds" to suspect that both Netanyahu and Gallant were criminally responsible as co-perpetrators. They are accused of using starvation as a warfare method and committing murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts against humanity.

The ICC further stated that Netanyahu and Gallant might bear responsibility as civilian leaders for directing attacks on civilians. This adds another layer of accountability for their roles during the specified period. The charges highlight serious allegations of targeting civilian populations intentionally.
Additional Arrest Warrant
In addition to Netanyahu and Gallant, an arrest warrant was also issued for Hamas leader Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, known as Mohammed Deif. This move indicates a broader scope of accountability being pursued by the ICC in relation to the West Asia conflict.
The situation in West Asia remains complex with various claims circulating online and offline. While efforts are made to report accurately on these conflicts involving Israel, Iran, Syria, Iraq, and non-state actors like the Islamic State, verifying all statements independently is challenging.
The ICC's actions underscore its commitment to addressing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. As developments unfold, further information is anticipated regarding these significant legal proceedings.
