How Americans spending time in ongoing shutdown? By watching porn, suggests report

Washington, Jan 21: The United States has its government shut down, thanks to a clash between the president and the Congress, and the furloughed workers are having a torrid time. But they have perhaps found a nice way of spending their free time as well.

In data released on Thursday, January 17, adult video platform Pornhub reported to have seen an average daily rise of around six per cent during the week starting on January 7 (the third week of the shutdown) compared to the traffic recorded in weeks prior to the shutdown that started on December 22, Mashable reported.

"Pornhub's statisticians noted not only an increase in visits to the site, but also a distinct shift in the hours during which people are watching porn. When compared to traffic levels prior to the shut-down, weekday visits across the United States were up 5.94% from January 7th to 11th," said a Pornhub Insights report.

"Pornhub's peak traffic period across the United States is typically from 1opm to Midnight (see Fappy Hour Insights).After the shutdown began, late-night traffic increased by up to 14% above average, while early morning traffic from 9am to 10am had the smallest change."

Pornhub has seen a shift with heavy rise in traffic late in the night with lower traffic than normal during the morning which is followed by another traffic rise in the early afternoon. These patterns suggest that people stay up later for they don't have to report to work the next morning.

"Additionally, Pornhub traffic in the Washington, D.C. area showed a similar spike over the same time period with an average daily increase of 6.32 percent versus pre-shutdown traffic," Mashable reported.

Pornhub also came out with categories that showed the biggest increase in the traffic during the time monitored: Seventy per cent in outdoor; 66 per cent in threesome and 60 per cent in old/young.
