Hindu doctor murdered in Pakistan, driver Hanif slits his throat after altercation

In yet tragic news coming from across the border, a prominent Hindu doctor from Pakistan's Hyderabad, Dharam Dev Raathi, was allegedly killed by his driver after both of them entered into an altercation. The incident took place on the night after the Holi festivities.

Police told Pakistan's news outlet The Nation that the driver identified as Hanif Leghari who slit the doctor's throat with a knife was arrested on Wednesday at his home in Khairpur.

The incident sent shock waves among the Hindu community in the country.

The doctor's cook told the police that the Rathi and Hanif had a verbal brawl. After reaching home, the driver took a knife from the kitchen and entered Rathi's room and slit his throat. The driver then fled from the spot in a doctor's car.

Dr Dharam Dev Raathi was a famous dermatologist in the Hyderabad area, said a report by The Nation. Though the reason and motive behind the murder was not known as yet, some reports claimed that the driver was miffed with the doctor playing Holi with his friends.

Pakistan's Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Giyan Chand Essarani lauded the police for arresting the the suspect within 24 hours. He also assured the slain doctor's family that justice will be delivered.

The President PPP Women Wing Pakistan MPA Faryal Talpur condemned the murder and called the incident 'heartbreaking'. She also assured the doctor's family that there will be justice. She added that the incident was distressing, especially at a time when the Hindu community was celebrating Holi.
