Washington, April 27: Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton has pledged that half her cabinet would comprise 50 per cent women if she became the US President.
Taking inspiration from Trudeau's Cabinet, Clinton said, "I am going to have a Cabinet that looks like America, and 50 per cent of America is women, right?"
Clinton declared this during MSNBC town hall in the eve of intra-party elections in five states- Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
The US Cabinet has typically the Vice President and the 15 heads of executive departments- the secretaries of agriculture, commerce, defense, education, energy, health and human services, homeland security, housing and urban development, interior, labor, state, transportation, treasury, veterans affairs, as well as the attorney general.
In fact, Barack Obama's ministry has just four female cabinet ministers. And Clinton's pledge would increase the numbers to 7. A female vice-President may also be in the fray, but that is considered a distant possibility.
Wooing the Indians in US, Clinton's manager John Podesta said a gathering of Indian-Americans supporter of Hillary that he would like to see Neera Tanden in her cabinet. Working on Indian-American policy expert, Tande hasbeen working with the Clintons for quite a long time and is currently heading the think tank Center for American Progress (CAP).
A survey shows that Hillary Clinton is not popular among millenial women as many of them seem to prefer septuagenarian Bernie Sanders.
Clinton also said that there would be at least 6 non-white cabinet members since only 62% of the US population is non-hispanic white.
