Here is how much Joe Biden and Kamala Harris earn

US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden released their federal tax return, which shows that the couple earned nearly $580,000 last year.

They paid an effective federal income tax rate of 23.8 per cent and donated roughly 3.5 per cent of their income to 20 charities. The release of the tax returns comes ahead of the 2024 presidential elections in which Biden is expected to seek a second term.

The Biden reported adjusted gross income of $579,514 and paid $137,658 in federal income tax, reports said. The salary that Joe Biden earns is $400,000, while Jill Biden's salary is at $82,335, which she earns from her job at Northern Virginia Community College. The rest of the income are from investment, interest, annuities, pension and distribution from retirement accounts.

The donations made by them included contributions to Churches and organisations focused on helping children and first responders.

US Vice President, Kamala Harris and her husband Dough Emhoff have also released their tax returns. The couple reported federal adjusted gross income of $456,918 and they paid $93,570 in federal income.

The income included $219,171 paid as salary to Kamala Harris as the Vice President of the United States and $62,870 from her books. Emhoff earned $169,665 from teaching at the Georgetown University Law Centre. The joint return showed that the couple contributed roughly 5 per cent of their income to charity.
