Hamas Acknowledges Shortcomings In October 7 Attacks: Security Collapse And Chaos

In a 16-page report on the attacks, it was stated by the Hamas group on Sunday that its October 7 attack on Israel was deemed a "necessary step" against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

However, the group admitted that "some faults happened... due to the rapid collapse of the Israeli security and military system, and the chaos caused along the border areas with Gaza," as reported by AFP.

Hamas Acknowledges Shortcomings in October 7 Attacks

The first public report justifying the attacks when they broke through Gaza's militarized border was released in English and Arabic by the group. The attacks resulted in the deaths of about 1,140 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

It was stated by the group that the attacks were "a necessary step and a normal response to confront all Israeli conspiracies against the Palestinian people."

Approximately 250 hostages were seized during the attack, with Israel stating that around 132 remain in Gaza. At least 27 captives are believed to have been killed, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

The Hamas-run health ministry reported that Israel's relentless bombardment and ground offensive have killed at least 25,105 people in Gaza, mostly women and children.

The immediate halt of Israeli aggression on Gaza, crimes, and ethnic cleansing committed against the entire Gaza population was urged by Hamas.

The group rejected any international and Israeli efforts to decide Gaza's post-war future, emphasizing that the Palestinian people can decide their future and arrange their internal affairs. The statement added that "no party in the world" had the right to decide on their behalf.
