Gunfight at Doral Bar Leaves Two Dead, Seven Wounded

A tragic incident unfolded at a suburban Miami bar early Saturday, resulting in two fatalities and seven injuries. The altercation began around 3:30 am at the Martini Bar located in the CityPlace Doral development, Doral, Florida. According to Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, the situation escalated when a security guard attempted to intervene in a fight between patrons. An unidentified individual then produced a firearm, shooting and killing the security guard.

In response, two Doral police officers, who were also on security detail, engaged the gunman. The confrontation led to one officer fatally shooting the assailant. During the exchange of gunfire, one officer sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh. Despite his injury, he managed to apply a tourniquet to himself. Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez highlighted the significance of the officers' training in such critical situations, crediting it for saving lives.

The chaotic scene also resulted in six bystanders being struck by bullets — comprising four men and two women. The injured officer has since been discharged from the hospital, while the six other victims remain under medical care, with two listed in critical condition.

The CityPlace Doral development, known for its blend of retail shops and residential units, became an impromptu crime scene. Residents reported hearing a rapid succession of gunshots that disrupted the early morning calm. William Suedois, a local resident, recounted the terrifying moment to WPLG-TV, initially mistaking the gunfire for fireworks.

As investigations continue, authorities have stated it is too premature to determine the specifics of the shooting sequence. Chief Lopez confirmed that only the two officers and the initial shooter were armed during the incident. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken charge of investigating the shootings, while Miami-Dade Police focus on the two fatalities.

The identities of both the gunman and the security guard remain undisclosed as officials work to piece together the motive behind the altercation. In the aftermath, CityPlace Doral management has implemented additional security measures and announced a partial reopening of the development.

The bar's owners have expressed their commitment to cooperating with law enforcement and conducting an internal investigation into the events that transpired. They acknowledged the profound impact of this violence on their community, pledging support in these trying times.
